Sonya's love of photography blossomed while capturing images of the world through trips taken with her husband. Photography was an extension of her natural creativity and self expression. Sonya's knack for capturing memorable images was not only noted by her husband, but by her best friend, who encouraged Sonya to document the many joyou
Sonya's love of photography blossomed while capturing images of the world through trips taken with her husband. Photography was an extension of her natural creativity and self expression. Sonya's knack for capturing memorable images was not only noted by her husband, but by her best friend, who encouraged Sonya to document the many joyous milestones and occasions in her family's life.
Sonya gratefully embraced the opportunity to develop her skills and become her best friend's 'family photographer'

A self taught photographer, Sonya's extensive experience as a teacher in the early childhood field has positively shaped how she views children and families, which is strongly reflected in her photos. She attempts to see the joy, beauty and humour in everyday situations. Sonya's knowledge of child development helps to create a comfortable
A self taught photographer, Sonya's extensive experience as a teacher in the early childhood field has positively shaped how she views children and families, which is strongly reflected in her photos. She attempts to see the joy, beauty and humour in everyday situations. Sonya's knowledge of child development helps to create a comfortable and natural photo session, follows the child's lead for the time frame required for several great photos.
Sonya will photograph children with various abilities and accessibilities; being mindful and considerate of their individuality.
Sonya's current camera of choice is a Sony Mirrorless-using a smaller camera allows her the ability to move around easily to encapsulate the best images of the session.
She realizes that she does her best work when she can come into a session and let people, both big and little, be who they are.
It is the bonds, the silly grins, the candid beauty and those dirty little feet (or paws) that are just gracing the earth that make the perfect picture.
Sonya captures the beauty of those fleeting moments, altering life to 'hold time still.'

Teaching preschool children for over 30 years has kept Sonya silly at heart. She believes in the importance of kindness and strives to emphasize it in her classroom and daily life.

When she isn't referring to herself in the third person, she enjoys digging in her garden, dancing to '80's tunes, hanging out with her comedic, ill behaved rescue dogs and travelling the world with her comedic, ill behaved husband.
